LEADERSHIP OR DICTATORSHIP
***Leadership or Dictatorship***
What is leadership?
the action of leading a group of people or an organization.
"A leader must wear many hats and be able to lead and encourage a team to perform. It is necessary for a leader to become an engaged member of the team, but be able to lead at the same time. It is inevitable that different personalities, industries and goals will force any leader to adapt and mold to fit the current environment. What is the best way to successfully encourage and lead a team? This is the million dollar question. Although each situation will present various opportunities and needs that a leader must meet, there will be some leadership styles that will impede the group each time."
A leader must be able to relate to the team and earn their respect and loyalty to the goal. This cannot be accomplished by being a dictator and micro managing the team and the members.
Also, a leader must not see himself or herself as the best man/woman in the group or society because for sure there might be so many people wiser and good but grace found you for we cannot have two (2) leaders in one group.
Who is a dictator in Leadership?
Someone who leads or rules with authority. A dictator is an opposite of a leader, a dictator commands and see themselves above every other person and always want the final say or opinion in every matter and no one dares to object.
“When good people run things, everyone is glad, but when the ruler is bad, everyone groans.” Proverbs 29:2 (MSG)
Leaders are selfless and understanding at all times...
We usually equate power, positions, popularity and having people under us to leadership. Some people think they are leaders but in actuality they are dictators.
What are the differences between a leader and dictator?
**Dictators vs. Leaders**
1. Dictators demand respect from others while Leaders believe respect is earned then given.
2. Dictators have a “ME” mentality while Leaders have a “WE” mentality.
3. Dictators are controlling and manipulative while Leaders are guiding and loving.
4. Dictators use their power to tear others down while Leaders use their power to unite and build others.
5. Dictators use fear and threats to get results while Leaders use reward and motivation.
6. Dictators blame others for mistakes and failure while Leaders take accountability.
7. Dictators have a personal agenda while Leaders have a world vision.
8. Dictators tell you what to do while Leaders show you what to do.
9. Dictators criticize while Leaders give feedback and advice in love.
10. Dictators are prideful while Leaders are humble.
11. Dictators want control while Leaders want growth.
12. Dictators want to be served while Leaders want to serve.
Everything is different when a dictator is ruling. The environment is toxic, negativity is in the air, people are fearful, morale is low, creativity is drained and there is no productivity.
A dictator will only kill the job because the people under them will not work to their full potential.
How does one move from being a Leader to a Dictator?
1. The love of power
2. Lack of self-control
3. Lack of forgiveness
4. Always want to demand etc
No one is saying leaders do not get angry too, leaders get angry but never suck on it because they forgive you after the anger and move on.
I once had a boss you won't be able to point who the boss is among us and him because you will always find him in our circle and we all eat together and play together without any issues.
That is a very good quality of a leader and with him the productivity of each member of the team is important
Leadership has to do with character and personality, you can't give what you don't have. You have to be close to God so that you can have a nice personality and be able to lead well.
Leadership is everywhere not only at work but in schools, churches, mosques, homes etc.
As a pastor, Father, teacher, brother etc you must show great leadership skills to your subordinates and see yourself as one.
N.B.
A leader must first serve and be true to his/her subject and not be demanding but must also learn to balance being a member of the team and also a leader because too much of play brings about "see finish" disrespect most times. Create relationship with your members based on their level of tolerance...
